Just don’t. #terogio

[EN] If November (and what’s left of October) could stay as warm as the last few days have been, I swear to God I would stop complaining about the fact that winter is coming. Well, temporarily at least. The vociferating shall commence soon, worry not. It’s almost like a tradition here on my realm, this being the season when I go into my most obnoxious/lethargic/grumpy state. At least once Christmas is gone and it gets all frosty and yucky… I kinda get the urge to flee the country.

Coming back to what I was saying though, last weekend was a total frenzy: 70 something degrees, beaming sunshine, leather skirt on my legs without needing any pantyhose or socks, not even a jacket! Such a luxury! I haven’t come across such a planet alignment in a long time (especially on a fall day).

I was out and about with the esteemed Melinte and my favorite photographer, Raluca, and I thought I would rise to the occasion and give the taxi drivers across the street a show they would never forget by taking some pictures. They quite enjoyed it, I think, it looked like they were having a blast.

So did we. Andra was filming everything so that I can gather content for my vlog, Raluca was going all pigeon pose on the sidewalk so she would get the perfect shot of the wind in my hair, so sexy (the last photo), and I was all doe-eyed looking into the distance or trying to take long steps, like those girls on the catwalk (I’m under the impression they tend to do a better job given the fact that their legs are neverending and the practice they get) so that you can clearly see the skirt in motion. I’ve had this skirt for some years now (thrifted, of course) and I think I’ve featured it on my blog several times before, being my absolute favorite when it comes to the leather skirts I own. I’ve blabbed enough about thrift shops and vintage in my last post, so I won’t insist on the case – but if you are looking for a leather skirt (which are excellent for the fall season), you can find the best ones in thrift stores.

And now, to end on an academic note, a few pieces of advice about leather skirts and how to wear them:

  1. If you ask me, the most flattering and elegant length for leather skirts is knee length (on or below the knee). Whether we are talking about an A-line skirt or a pencil skirt (like the one I’m wearing), I believe that the sex-appeal of the fabric needs to be balanced with a more modest length. Don’t get me wrong, the short ones look good as well, but they require much more coordination and a certain figure to pull off.
  2. My recommendation would be to steer clear of the plastic-y fabric (something like this) and go for a more thick leather, with a slightly worn finish or at least a matte one. There are plenty of options in stores, whether it’s genuine leather or pleather, I’m not saying you have to buy the real deal 🙂
  3. Regarding coordinating pieces, I am very fond of the shirt + leather skirt combo. A denim shirt, a white shirt, a polka dot shirt (the top I’m wearing today can be considered a shirt, I guess), any type of relaxed shirt. A chunky, cable knit sweater or a high neck jumper is spot on for the winter time.
  4. Ideally, we want to counterbalance volume (this applies to any type of skirt, not just leather ones). which means that if we have an A-line skirt on the lower half of our body, we should wear a form-fitting top on our upper body, and a pencil skirt would require a more voluminous top. Therefore, we balance proportions, making sure that we are not drowning in our clothes.
  5. Shoe-wise, you can wear boots, pumps or even sandals, depending on the temperature. As it gets colder, we can add thick, opaque pantyhose (what I was telling you about in my fall-centered video a couple of weeks ago).
  6. Never wear leather with leather. If you want to wear a leather jacket, don’t wear a leather skirt as well. If you’re wearing a leather skirt, don’t wear the jacket. Just don’t. #ibegofyou

I always have been a fan of leather skirt, but I was „afraid” to wear them because I didn’t know how to wear and style them. I have read others articles about this subject and I think yours is the best. I have wear leather skirt, but I did the mistakes that you’ve writen about. ?? What can I say, I’m still learning! ? I love that wine kind of color skirt, and the bag is amazing! ? Sorry about my English, I’m Russian! ??

Buna, Andreea! Recomand serialul „The Man in the High Castle”.
